Working group meeting minutes – 18 May 2023

  2. Notes of the previous meeting agreed
  3. Feedback from pilot community meetings
    • Sierra Ward, Little Lights Toddler Group at St Giles Church (by email)
      • Twenty or so present, mostly female and in their late 20’s and early 30’s
      • Concerns about local good sized retail shops
      • Paucity of pre school play groups
      • Purpose built student accommodation should be designed to complement existing housing
      • Suggestion for a glass enclosed indoor park suitable for young children with their carers
    • b) Patrick Conway, Gilesgate Moor PH
      • Group of eight, mainly male
      • Issues about rather haphazard development of retail on the four separate sites
      • Linked to this, highways issues, signage and pedestrian crossings
      • Need for affordable rentable housing for both families, singles and seniors
    • c) Agreed further targeted meetings should be pursued
      • School governing bodies. Lesley Mavin to investigate Gilesgate Primary
      • Registered social housing providers. Patrick Conway to pursue
  4. Locality Funding for NP preparation.
    Noted website as yet contained no information about 2023/24 funding.
    Richard Hornby advised of a written answer to a question tabled by the local MP. “Information will be provided in the usual way.”
  5. Report presented to Belmont Parish Council and Gilesgate Residents Association.
    This report, previously circulated, had been agreed earlier in the month by both organisations. Should an announcement be forthcoming from Locality about funding the chair and vice chair of BPC as the ‘relevant body’ and in collaboration with the chair and vice chair of GRA are authorised to make applications. Discussion at BPC regarding future sustainability of NP work noted.
  6. Housing indicative theme.
    General discussion covering
    • Need for more housing for seniors and residents with mobility challenges
    • Inadequate size of homes on new developments
    • Grater recognition of need for affordable rented accommodation for families, singles and seniors
    • Affordability needs to be base on local income levels
    • Need to examine unallocated sites in NP area, particularly for affordable housing
    • Noted Cunningham Place and Kenny Place had been identified as potential sites
    • Possible consideration of the Mullards area
    • Patrick Conway to prepare a short introduction for the draft report
  7. Draft report.

  8. Date of next meeting
    With the summer looming, agreed to share information by email. Anticipated the next meeting will take place in Early September, unless there is an urgent item requiring attention.
